The wedding day dawned
bringing with it warm rays of ecstasy
Today was the day the bridegroom promised
To love and cherish his beautiful bride
The bride looked so graceful
dressed in the wedding attire of 'his' choice
Red and golden was the colour
of her beautiful bridal lehenga
He wore a royal blue sherwani
Together they made the most beautiful picture.
Her pretty kajal laden eyes
kept coyly glancing at her groom
and secret smiles were being exchanged.
The mother and the father wept
for the apple of their eyes
was moving far away
to start a new chapter of her life
With love and Duas
they bid her away
The elder sister was overjoyed
cause her sister bride was moving to her town
The little sisters were not too happy
to have their sister bride go so far away.
Then was the turn of the mother in law
to dote on the bride
How happy she was
to find a lovely companion
for her dearest son
The little children looked so cheerful
in their colourful dresses.
they twirled here and there
making people smile
Slowly ,the waiters started pouring in
With trays of Crystal glasses
filled with juices and soda
and platters of samosas and kababs.
The dinner came later
The most anticipated part of the day.
Then came the photo session
A memory token
for the young couple
for the many years to come.
The wedding cake was cut
A glorious feast
The groom fed the bride
and the crowd cheered away.
The bride stepped out with her handsome groom
to live the loveliest of stories
she would read.
*Dedicated to my dear sister and jeeju*
*'Duas' is an Arabic/Urdu term which means supplication to the Divine for blessings. The English term blessings doesn't do justice to the word 'dua', hence the usage. *
