Dear social media enthusiasts
A million little things await you, yet I see you lost for hours and hours in a world which is not completely yours.
In your ruthless killing of time, scrolling down pages and pages, ask yourself what valleys of success have you crossed watching random posts of all sorts of dinners, dresses and vacations. Trying to gorge on every bit of gossip a picture can gather and making relentless self judgements, ask yourself- Is this all my worth?
Are the pictures I see going to be the fuel for my next gossip sessions? Is my whatsapp going to be flooded with screenshots passed back and forth between a friend who could also be doing better stuff. In the age of social media, even backbiting has a taken a new dimension- A single screenshot suffices!
How many calls of the mum are going to go ignored and the pleas of the younger sibling for help with the homework are going to go unattended?
Are the advertisements you are bombarded with everyday, slowly but gradually chipping away at your determination to stay within your budget? Do they make you a content being at the end of the day?
The lives of celebrities that you so passionately follow, in what ways do they inspire you?
Don't you realise the effects of the real eye are very real, when you showcase your happiness for the world to see?
Where does all your sincerity vanish, when you post of all the good you do- the hajj selfies, the check ins to hotels on the way to Umrah and donations to various charity projects. Do you know that the acceptance of deeds lies in their sincerity (doing it for Allah's sake alone).
The evil that you post remains behind, even after you lie deep within your graves. Every person who is influenced by your actions, adds on a baggage to your record of evil deeds.
This isn't to scare you, but an alert in advance goes a long way in reformation, if Allah wills.
You maintain your hijab well, but why do you like the posts of sisters who do not maintain their hijab. Are you encouraging them to transgress? Don't you wish for your sister what you love for yourself? Its part of faith to love for sister what you love for your self. Don't you wish modesty for your sister? Do you lead a double life so full of deception, lies and secrets that if your parent/spouse were to accidentally discover, they would shed endless tears.
Stop. And hear the voice of your conscience roaring at you. Asking your mind and soul to take a break.
Use social media to your advantage and not to spell your doom.
Wake up and smell the coffee.
